Frequently Asked Questions
About expert testimony, report review and consultation.
What does a forensic psychologist do?
A forensic psychologist applies psychological assessment and research to legal questions: evaluating people when the law requires it, reviewing other experts' work, consulting with attorneys and courts, and testifying.
What kinds of matters does Dr. Tutty take?
Personal injury (tort) matters involving neuropsychological deficits, school risk matters following suspension or expulsion, work product review of other experts' psychological and neuropsychological reports, and consultation in high-conflict family law.
Does Dr. Tutty perform custody or parenting evaluations?
No. He does not perform custody, parenting or other divorce-related evaluations. He consults with judges, commissioners and attorneys in high-conflict family law disputes.
Will he work for either side?
Opinions follow the method and the data, not the retaining party. Attorneys on either side may contact the office to discuss a matter.
Can you review a report without examining the person?
Yes. A work product review examines the methodology, data, interpretation and conclusions of an existing report.
How are fees structured?
Fees follow a tier system. Personal injury evaluations, work product reviews and expert consultation are Tier 2; expert testimony is Tier 3. A detailed cost sheet shows the fees and initial retainer.
Are meetings in person or by video?
Consultations can be in person at 353 Lexington Ave or by video. Testing, when an evaluation is part of the engagement, is in person.
How quickly can you start?
It depends on the scope and the materials. Raise any court or disclosure deadlines in the first call.
